Flowing Wantij / Under the Surface

The video is Nico Parlevliet’s contribution to the 2nd Festival of the Smallest that went online on May 1th, 2022. This Festival was set up as part of the artists’ initiative 222Lodge during the Corona crisis. Getting together every two months like in the 222Lodge was not possible for two years. Hence the purpose of this digital initiative. The recruitment was described as:
We are looking for the smallest, the quietest, the least, the narrowest, the slowest, the lightest, the shortest, and the thinnest. If your work is barely perceptible with the eye, with the ear, or with the mind, but is still unmistakably there, we want to show it. The Festival of the Smallest will be presented exclusively online.

This video Flowing Wantij / Under the Surface is an audio recording of two hydrophones, each controlling a channel. Wantij is a river near Dordrecht, city in the Netherlands. It is a tidal river. Therefore very interesting to listen under the surface. In this case: use a headphone for a good experience.
