Tugu Maluku

Tugu Maluku betekent Moluks Monument. Op 26 mei 2023 was de onthulling van dit kunstwerk. Het is een eerbetoon aan de eerste generatie Molukkers, die in 1951, voor een tijdelijk verblijf, naar Nederland zijn verscheept. Door politieke omstandigheden konden zij echter niet meer terugkeren. Het monument bestaat uit een grote zwerfkei, met daarop een keramische schaal, waarin ruimtelijk de Molukse eilanden zijn uitgebeeld. In de rand van de schaal staat aan de ene kant de Maleise tekst ‘Atas Gelombang Sedjarah’, en aan de andere kant de tekst in het Nederlands: ‘Op de Golven van de Geschiedenis’  Het water is de oceaan. Het vullen van de schaal was tegelijk de openingsceremonie. Het kunstwerk is gemaakt in opdracht van de gemeente Dordrecht. Locatie: Essenhof, Dordrecht.

Tugu Maluku means Moluccan Monument. The unveiling of this artwork was on May 26, 2023. It is a tribute to the first generation of Moluccans, who were shipped to the Netherlands in 1951 for a temporary stay. However, political circumstances prevented them from returning. The monument consists of a large boulder, with a ceramic bowl on top, in which the Moluccan islands are depicted spatially. In the edge of the bowl on one side is the Malay text ‘Atas Gelombang Sedjarah’, and on the other side the text in Dutch: ‘On the Waves of History’  The water is the ocean. The filling of the bowl was also the opening ceremony. The artwork was commissioned by the municipality of Dordrecht. Location: Essenhof, Dordrecht, the Netherlands.
