Zen in ‘t Bat

2008 – De stad Venlo vecht met drugsgerelateerde zaken rond de Maaskade (Quay de Meuse). Koffieshops worden opgekocht, de wijk krijgt een culturele bestemming en de naam Q4. Om de wijk bekendheid te geven werd aan 4 landelijke kunstenaars gevraagd een plan te maken om de Maaskade tijdelijk door kunst te transformeren. Diederik Klomberg en Nico Parlevliet kwamen met het plan om de parkeerplaats aan de Maas te veranderen in een Zen-tuin en organiseerden in de periode van de tentoonstelling verschillende evenementen, zoals meditatie workshops, theeceremonie besteld via mobiele telefoon, muzikale optredens en een finissage rond het thema ‘licht en vuur’. Ze gebruikten 350.000 kg kiezels op een oppervlakte van 4500 m2 om de parkeerplaats te veranderen in een Zen Garden.

2008 – The city of Venlo put up a fight with drugs-related business around the Maaskade (Quay de Meuse). Drugshops are bought up, the district gets a cultural destination and the name Q4. To give reputation to the district 4 national artists were asked to make a plan to transform the Maaskade temporarily by art. Diederik Klomberg and Nico Parlevliet came with a plan to change the parking place near the Meuse into a Zen garden and arranged in the period of the exhibition several events, such as meditation workshops, tea ceremony ordered by mobile telephone, musical performences and a finissage around the theme ‘light and fire’. They used 350.000 kg pebbles on a surface of 4500 m2 to change the parking place into a Zen Garden.
